2019 Fall Skincare Guide For All Skin Types?

It's fall time! Pumpkin carving, scents of cinnamon, apple picking, and daylight savings fill this time of year. This season, reevaluate your fall skincare routine and change a few things that no longer work for the summer. Before you switch up your routine, you have to know what affects your skin in the fall.

A few things that irritate the skin are:

  1. lower humidity

  2. less sunlight

  3. Keratosis Pilaris

LOWER HUMIDITY

Lower humidity levels can have either a positive effect or a negative effect depending on your hydration levels and environmental factors. When the humidity is lower, you are unable to retain the moisture in your skin which causes skin irritation. In the fall, people are usually staying indoors to stay warm by running the heater. Running the heat, draw out the moisture in your skin which causes surface dryness, acne, blemishes, and other skin problems.

SOLUTION

Invest in a humidifier in the fall to keep the moisture in your skin.

LESS SUNLIGHT

In my opinion, sunlight provides essential nutrients that keep you healthy. Since daylight savings is fast approaching in the western hemisphere, less sunlight can cause a lack of vitamin D. When you have a lack of vitamin D, it can cause low iron levels, headaches, weakness, tiredness, irritability, and dull skin.

SOLUTION

Since you can't change daylight savings, taking a vitamin D supplement in the form of chlorophyll can be beneficial. Some benefits of chlorophyll are:

  1. odor control

  2. immune system support

  3. energy

  4. blood detoxification

  5. skin healing

KERATOSIS PILARIS

According to Mayo Clinic, Keratosis Pilaris is a common, harmless skin condition that causes dry rough patches and tiny bumps. Keratosis Pilaris can be found on your thighs, legs, and the back of your arms but can also be on other parts of your body. Keratosis Pilaris needs constant exfoliation and hydration.

SOLUTION

Invest in products that exfoliate the skin. You can either use a manual exfoliation or a chemical exfoliation. A manual exfoliation will consist of either a washcloth or a body brush and a chemical exfoliation can be salicylic or glycolic acid.
